SOUTH BEND — Introduced in February 2025, the downtown South Bend 2045 plan highlights a push for bike paths, trails and overall adding features that contribute to the walkability of downtown. However, organizations such as the South Bend Greenway Conservancy are on a mission to bring those elements beyond downtown and into surrounding neighborhoods, and they’re starting with the near west side.
The city’s Redevelopment Commission agreed at its April 9 meeting to give the Greenway Conservancy $50,000 to contribute to building a westside greenway starting at the South Bend City Cemetery and heading south to West Western Avenue.
