Our Projects

As the inaugural project under the SBGC, The GreenWay will act as a bridge between members of the community, prominent and historical sites, and nature through a connected series of new, existing, and revitalized green spaces.

Located next to St. Stephens School (formerly El Campito Child Development Center), Mrs. Nino’s Garden was founded, built, and continues to be maintained by local community members, including several founding board members of SBGC.

The idea was born from a collective desire to turn a lawn-covered lot into a sizeable, eco-conscious vegetable garden. It has not only succeeded as a local, sustainable food source, but also a source of education for El Campito students.

What was once a collection of four vacant lots in an urban community has been transformed into a unified, public green space. Pearl park not only supports local flora and fauna, but adds much needed beauty to a community otherwise disconnected from natural spaces.

The park was founded and created by SBGC founding board member Megyn Edmonson, and offers a space of respite and reconnection to nature for individuals living in and around the Near West Side Neighborhood.
